I notice the board's been rather quiet, and I've been quiet myself. But I'll admit that I'm upset that the Wings snubbed Jamie again when they called up Jan for what was only a one-game call-up. I completely understand that Jan has a bright future with the Wings, but they've seen him play plenty, they know what he can do, and 18 NHL games with one point doesn't make him a necessity up there, especially when he only gets about seven minutes playing time each game.
I've never been a Tardif advocate before--remember, I'm the guy who sees Haydar as a kind of model gentleman captain--but I think this situation is unfair. Tardif's playing great, and he deserves something. I don't think he has any kind of long-term future with the Wings, but let him play in one game before he leaves the organization. Give him something to hope for. Let him always know that he was a Wing. This isn't charity--he's a good player, and he won't lose the game in the seven minutes he'd get to play. In fact, he might surprise them with how well he'd play. Besides, he's tough, and the Wings could use that.
One more thing: I note that he's still an RFA, and I'd love to have him back, but I honestly hope that he winds up with an organization that gives him a chance.
Well, having said all that, please vote in my humble poll and offer your comments. I guess you can figure out how I voted.

He deserves atleast his cup of coffee. He's played great lately and busts his arse every game. I know Mursak has a brighter future. But come on if it's just for one game give the dude a nugget.

Yes, that's my point exactly. And as I've said before, why would a veteran "bubble" player sign with the Wings knowing that he has such a little chance of getting a call-up? I mean, it makes sense that someone like Minard hasn't gotten one because he's underperformed (although let's note that he's been playing really well since the mid-season mark!). But when Tardif plays better than anyone expects him to, and he doesn't even get the smallest opportunity, what kind of message does that send to the free agents out there? I know that there are a lot of players who say "It's always been my dream to be a Red Wing," but keep in mind that most AHL veterans are just hoping for a realistic chance to play in the NHL. You don't win Calder Cups without veterans who perform really well, and I think that a prime motivation for playing really well is knowing that a call-up is always a definite possibility, not just something that might just maybe happen only if half the NHL team gets injured.

I think Jamie's played with more heart and grit this year than any season prior. That said, I think the Wings need to work on their prospects first. I'm sorry, but this is still a business.
And let's not forget that while Jamie has become a great player, his growth as a player (to me at least) has seemed slow. Speaking of speed, Mursak's got him beat, and in the NHL if you're not the best puck handler/scorer/defensive player, you'd better be fast.
I truly would love to see him make it in the bigs, but I doubt there is room for him in Detroit.
But then again, what do I know?

It would be a nice thing for the Wings to do once their regular season position is set.
I don't think they'll do it... But it would be nice.
