Howard stopped 44 of 46 shots and Lemieux scored late in the third to lift Grand Rapids over Quad City. Nice win especially considering the Griffins only had 21 shots on goal. They have just had Keeting's number this season. Haydar and Stafford (PP) had the other goals in the win.

Any particular reason Ritola wasn't playing? Injured/ill?
Edit: Just read in the other thread that he's injured. That explains why we only had 11 forwards. QC might be struggliing this season but it's still a very good win under the circumstances.

It seemed to be another great game by Jimmy. He really held the team in the game, giving Frankie Sr the chance to score the goal. They aren't always pretty wins, but that's the mark of a good team; winning when maybe you shouldn't be. Its nice to sweep Quad City, and repay them back for when they did it to us. It keeps us close with Manitoba too. Gotta control your own destiny.

I wonder why QC didn't go with Leland Irving instead of Keetley? As noted, we've done well against Keetley so a change up might have helped QC. Not that I'm complaining though. I'd like to see more SOG from us though. I doubt we'll win too many games where we are out shot by a better than 2 to 1 ratio. We still have 2 games in hand over 'da Moose and are only trailing by a point. We are tied with Hershey for the best winning percentage in the AHL. Only 3 teams have scored more goals than the Griffins and only 3 teams have given up fewer goals. BA-DA-BA-BA-BA ... I'm lovin' it ... ;D Brian

Howard has turned it up and he needs to keep it up! I have maintained he will bein Detroit next season, but no doubt he needs a strong 2nd half and POST season tolock in that spot in Detroit. This tandem keeps them in games even when badly outshot. (That is a good thing as Howard may get called up for a few games if the the Detroit tandem doesn't get it together.) That said, no surprise they were outshot. The offense took a hit with Leino and Helm in Detroit.
