That means some more openings for Griffins to earn an NHL job. Too bad Ritola and Ericsson are hurt, hopefully Oulahen will get a sniff.

I have to agree with both of you. Either Ryan or Evan would be excellent choices to get a chance to show what they could do up there. Even both of them. Obviously not at the same time, but its an ample opportunity to look and see what you've got down on the farm for the playoffs, and who might just surprise you. Both have been playing so awesome this season, and it would be great for both of them to get that call.

PASTE FROM DETROIT NEWS OUTLET:
"They think it's a small tear, so hopefully when they cut me up it is a small tear and I can start skating maybe 2-3 weeks in, and maybe in (four or five weeks), I can start playing,'' Holmstrom said.
Holmstrom surely will be placed on long-term injured reserve, which will enable the Wings to keep forwards Darren Helm and Ville Leino around even after defenseman Brad Stuart is taken off IR.
Coach Mike Babcock also indicated that defenseman Jonathan Ericsson will join the club shortly. He has been battling a wrist injury.
If Helm, Leino and Ericsson are up this will be a HUGE test for the Grifs.
who do you say needs to pick up the slack?
Howard? - He has been hotlately, but he needs to be consistent.
Larsson - He needs tostay hot!
Kindl - His +/- is still bad. He needs to tighen up on D evenifitmeans sacrificing some offense.
Kosolov - Big boy, play BIGGER!
The 2 Frank's, ritola, Oulahen, - points, points, points.

Geez, with the available cap space I'd love to see Howard get a start or two up there to hopefully light a goalie fire.

who do you say needs to pick up the slack? Just like tonight, the rest of the Griffins will step up and fill the gap. Goals from 5 different players so far tonight...Mursak, Staffford, Gagnon, Oulahen, and Walsh. That's what makes this team so good.

So Ericsson has been "battling injuries" off and on all season, and he's the next callup. Freakin' genius.

Coyote you must know that "thou shall not screw with the predetermined pecking order". Ritola will probably come off the shelf and go up as well. Abdelkador went -10 for January and still got the call as a 3rd/4th line checker when he couldn't do it so well in the AHL. A call early in the year I could see, but latlely? Then there's a guy playing 25 to 30 minutes a night in all situations, playing his best hockey right now, been around for 3 plus years and has never got a sniff. Oh well at least they're not just looking at the stats and calling up the highest scoring 30+ yr old on a one year contract like they've done the last 3 or 4 years. But are they promoting the best players at the moment in time? No way.

Bad time for Ritola to be injured. I guess he's still got a bit of time to get healthy and called up to the Wings.

Oh well at least they're not just looking at the stats and calling up the highest scoring 30+ yr old on a one year contract like they've done the last 3 or 4 years. But are they promoting the best players at the moment in time? No way. That's a huge reason why Darren Haydar said he agreed to come to the Griffins. He saw Mark Hartigan last year get another NHL chance, Josh Langfeld the year before, Don MacLean prior to that. Detroit sure loves tried-and-true veterans; even at the AHL level. It takes a kid with a lot of potential (Helm) to step in front of Detroit's preference for old guys.
