Fort Wayne won the new Turner Cup Championship in the new IHL last night with a 3-2 win in game 7 over Port Huron.....
..... in TRIPLE OVERTIME!!!
What a way to start the lore of a new trophy.
Kongrats... Komets.

Wow, ditto that, sj.
You know, when I think back to the OLD IHL and the Owls back in the 70s, there was no team I hated more than Fort Wayne. The Owls and Komets had some memorable bench clearing brawls back then which even involved back up goalies and trainers. Classic.
I despised Robbie Irons, their goalie, and his Billy Smith/Marty Turdco/Jamie McLennan type tactics. Those were always very spirited games/series.

I've been to the Coliseum twice, once was for a Vipers game. The other was for a Michigan/Notre Dame hockey game a few years ago. I just was impressed about the redo of the arena, it's so much better than what it used to be.

So, SJ, how's the new IHL doing as a league?
And, Red Wings, I have a bunch of Terry Ewasiuk memorabilia from the good ol' seventies. He played for Saginaw, Ft. Wayne, and Hershey. Do you remember him?

I wouldn't know how the IHL is doing.
I haven't been to a game since they were the UHL. Saw Kzoo and Muskegon in the playoffs in 2007. (I still hate the K-Things)

Sorry, griffreak, Ewasiuk's name escapes my memory. Most of my memories revolve around the magical 1978-9 season when they finished first in the regular season, but lost game seven of the TC finals at home. Man, was I bitter.
So it's primarily the Owl names the stick in my memory. Although, I do have one Grand Rapids-Toledo game program that lists Mike Eruzione on the Toledo roster. I'm sure the sentimental value far exceeds any market value.
And now, for a happy Dad thought. I used to take my girls to the Griffin games as they were growing up. Now, the two oldest are 17 and 16, and of course they can no longer be seen in public with me. Consequently, my eight year old has been my hockey date for the past couple of years.
Well, last night, I got home about 30 minutes before the Red Wing face off and I went to set up shop (dinner, beer, remote) in front of the big screen downstairs. Well, lo and behold, my 16 year old daughter was down there watching a DVD. I was about ready to pull rank when I noticed she was at the end of "Miracle" and Herbie was in the tunnel quietly celebrating on his own.
I said, "Holy cow, how come you're watching Miracle, is it a class assignment?". She said no, she just needed a hockey fix, and the Griffins aren't playing anymore.
That made me happy.
